Overview

The BCCSU Interdisciplinary Addiction Fellowship program is pleased to share that additional funded fellowship opportunities are now available for self-identifying Indigenous applicants.

This opportunity is available only for the 2023-24 program.

Applicants with a background in medicine qualify for this funding.

Background

Recognizing that Indigenous communities are served by fewer health professionals per capita than non-Indigenous communities, and that Indigenous health professionals and trained community members are better able to understand and respond to community context and needs, this Fellowship opportunity will help address the need for Indigenous-led responses to substance use and addiction.

The Interdisciplinary Addiction Medicine Fellowship program prepares clinicians to work as front-line community experts in addiction medicine and take on mentorship and clinical leadership roles.

The program has rotation sites that serve significant numbers of Indigenous peoples, including a multi-disciplinary primary care clinical rotation site operated by a First Nations community.

Positions

This funding is made available through Health Canada's Substance Use and Addictions Program and is offered in partnership with First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) and the Indigenous Physician’s Association of Canada (IPAC).

It will support five interdisciplinary fellows identified with FNHA and specific First Nations communities, while also supporting two physician fellows from anywhere in Canada identified in collaboration with IPAC and FNHA.
