Dr. Lindsey Richardson

Dr. Lindsey Richardson, D.Phil., is a Research Scientist with the BC Centre on Substance Use, an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of British Columbia, and holds the Canada Research Chair in Social Inclusion and Health Equity. She is also the Lead for Research Trainee Development at the BCCSU.

Dr. Richardson is a medical sociologist whose research focuses on the social and structural dynamics and health impacts of employment, income generation, and poverty among people who use drugs. She is the Principal Investigator of several observational, intervention and research participation studies with the overarching goal to address socioeconomic and policy drivers of drug-related harm and health inequity.

Dr. Richardson holds Master’s and Doctoral degrees in sociology from the University of Oxford. In addition to project-based funding she has been supported by New Investigator and Foundation Scheme Awards from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Career Scholar Awards. Her knowledge translation and policy work has been recognized by the national Angus Reid Award for Public Sociology.
