Vancouver sees spike in overdose deaths amid coronavirus pandemic

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues in BC and around the world, the City of Vancouver said it also experienced an increase in overdose deaths last week.
This increase is “a reminder that we now are experiencing two public health emergencies: COVID-19 and the overdose crisis,” the city said in a release.
From March 23 to 29, Vancouver Police reported eight overdose-suspected deaths, the most in a single week since August 2019, “and in contrast with the decline in number of overdose deaths in the city over the past year,” the city said. “The drug supply remains toxic with fentanyl and other contaminants present in many local illicit drugs.”…View the full article
